THE STILL METHOD

Created by the award winning therapist Stuart Thompson, the STILL Method is designed to help you develop your resilience by delivering a programme that identifies the root causes of anxiety and provides a step-by-step approach that improves your confidence, reduces feelings of fear and supports you to manage overwhelming emotions when they occur.

After successfully completing my undergraduate degree in 2003, I worked in several independent contractor roles supporting widening participation initiatives. Widening participation works to create access pathways for marginalised students interested in attending university. I have a strong sense of social justice and believe that if our society can prioritise the creation of inclusive and equitable spaces, able to meet varied needs, then everyone will have an opportunity to thrive and we will all be better off for it.
I am bilingual - my first language is English, and I am fluent in British Sign Language. I previously worked with deaf students in education before training to become a sign language interpreter in 2009, a job that excites me just as much today as it did back then.
So, what made me decide to become a STILL Method coach?
As a parent of neurodivergent children, and as a neurodivergent adult myself, I am very aware that the world we live in creates unique challenges for those of us who don't fit neatly into a particular box.
I have been that parent who went looking for a way to support her children; finding that services were either inaccessible to us because the thresholds are so high. Or, they fall painfully short of what we needed. Then rather serendipitously, someone told me about a local STILL Method club that their child had attended and loved, so I decided to give it a go. I remember dropping my kids off at the club and then waiting outside in the car, convinced that I'd be getting a call to come and pick them up after five minutes. Much to my surprise, an hour later, I was still sitting there waiting. After the session had ended my children ran out, full of stories about how much they'd enjoyed it and the new friends they had made. I saw first hand how effective the STILL Method was and believe me, my kids are a really hard sell! After the six weeks had ended, I was also sold and made the decision to become a coach myself.
The thing that I really like about the STILL Method is that it's designed in such a way that it is fully accessible to everyone, adults and children alike. The STILL Method works just as effectively in 1:1 sessions as it does in groups - Although I must confess that there are a lot more laughs in the group sessions! And most importantly, it is safe and inclusive. If you've got a child who is a natural performer, the STILL Method gets them burning off energy and taking centre stage; and for children who prefer to quietly hold those wallflower positions for a while, the STILL Method programme creates a safe space that allows them to participate without any pressure.
I also have a life outside of work. I am married, with two children, and a golden Labrador puppy called Seren. Seren and I are diligently training together so that she can follow in her parents paw-steps working as an emotional support dog in therapeutic settings. Hopefully, she will eventually be able to come with me and help run the STILL Method sessions too - if only I could get her to stop chewing everyone's shoes! One day...
